Smithsonite is a secondary mineral typically found within the oxidation of zinc ore deposits - think Pyrite, Sphalerite, etc and comes in the most beautiful pastel colors not often seen in the mineral world.  Smithsonite often forms in botryoidal growths with the surface of the stone sometimes being lustrous & pearly as it moves through the light.
